Focus On Today Before Venturing Into Tomorrow

New Worlds to come and the New World that was, how do we prevent past conflicts from repeating between different nations when we reach the point of human exploration and possible colonization of a new world? As space exploration speeds up and we see new possibilities not only in our home solar system but nearby solar systems with their own worlds, possibly even ones similar to earth, it's only a matter of technology and time that we will see the age of at least nearby star travel. Most definitely the terraforming of Mars and a moon base will happen within our lifetime, but how do we share these new worlds? Who will they belong to?

Once upon a time, we traveled to the ends of the Earth to find it didn't actually end. A New World of vast uncharted lands and seas were discovered all within our reach, Spain, France, England all racing to claim a piece of this new world driven by greed and eventually resulting in wars and cultural destruction, the unnecessary deaths to both natives and explorers as well as whole ecological collapse of animals and plant species. We invaded the new world like a plague turning a paradise into a scarred wasteland.

How are we planning to prevent this outcome when again we race to claim our part of the New World? You would think it would be of some importance that we come together over all our differences and unite as humans of Earth. The planet we occupy when looked at from space has no lines or borders, it does not have names scrawled across its lands and seas! That is us who put up walls and draw imaginary lines, us who give things labels, not that it doesn't make things convenient, but most of these imaginary lines were created in the blood of others. It's a sad fact that the true cost to section up the land into tidy little boxes was the blood and life's of many innocent people all because we have to attempt to own what no one has any right to claim ownership of! Something that was never supposed to belong to any single thing but shared between all things.

If we refuse to solve the conflicts we have here if we can't find tolerance, understanding, compassion, and unity with one another, how do we expect to prevent history from repeating? This time it could be the end and destruction of everything. We are not using muskets or cannons today but nuclear arms, We are trying to make progress without first progressing where it's needed, here and now between each other, solving the problems we created here on Earth first.

Resolving the conflicts between warring nations, and overcoming the prejudices in our minds. Learning not to purge all our planets resources, and how to repair the damage done thus far. These are the important things that we have to resolve now and today before we move on to tomorrow.
